I can see it. Are there subways in London?

Also, I think the dual airplanes are a bit much, take one out and to compensate for the side without a plane, make the buildings a tiny bit taller.

Here's another version of the map without a plane:

It's good either way, but I would say the one you just posted is an improvement as it declutters the space some.

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

I like how the old mines was a terrible map, but mines plus a few buildings in the middle is amazing

It's the little things. Mines wasn't terrible, it just needed some work.

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

I only see two functional differences-

1. the city map has an airplane and platforms high up, creating more emphasis on getting the high ground (and making the bottom tunnels even more useless)
2. the tall building in the middle prevents easily getting a grenade over to the other side.

it's also still mostly symmetrical, something I was just told is boring

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

The added buildings remove the problem of having flat terrain, and the objects in the air give variety to the map, since there's an added strategic element.

While the lower level wouldn't be as big of a factor, it would still come into play if someone falls down there.

It would probably end up playing a lot like castle actually.

Some things I would change:
Make the middle building somewhat shorter, so it doesn't block as many grenades.
Remove the spiked building on the right, since it would be way too hard to hit.

and to your second post, I again say, it's the little things that make a map great or terrible, not the overall base structure of the map.

that's fine, but little things are not the same as a complete overhaul.
I don't mind making multiple revisions of a map, it's just that a lot of people here have exaggerated reactions to them.
It's like with the new mines map I came up with- everyone has different ideas on what 'little things' will fix the map. then you say 'I'm thinking this is a lost cause.'

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

Yeah, I think the revised Mines is beyond fixing with little tweaks. In my opinion, it's fundamentally flawed in many ways, for some reasons I listed there, unlike the first Mines, which just needed some things added/changed.

In any case, as I said before, it's really hard to fully judge a map just from seeing it, which is why all this discussion is kind of going in circles.

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

I don't think that the map is that great though, it's aesthetically pleasing, but not that functional. I'm just basing this on the fact that it's scaled down small as fuck so all of that would be a lot more fucky... if that makes sense.

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

I'll probably get flack but I thought the city map was crap. The idea of a city is a great idea, visually, but how are you supposed to get over the buildings? I think it felt more open and that's why people reacted positively to it, the original Mines felt small where this one felt like you could go higher, which is what people seem to shoot for strategy-wise.

I think the 2nd edition of Mines is going down the right path. There will be plenty of open maps where you can lob grenades and climb to high points, I welcome something that feels different and unfamiliar. Keep it claustrophobic and make people change their comfort zones. I would probably make more tunnels, almost like an ant farm type of deal, multiple ways to go, linking to multiple different tunnels at different points, almost like a maze.

I agree with Mike. I enjoyed seeing the revised Mines simply because it was refreshing to see something unusual and different.

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

Shrub's critique of Mzk's map is spot on--buildings are too tall and spiky. If doing a city theme though, I would take out the mining stuff like the crane scooper thing and take the car off the bottom and make the bottom more of a sewer sort of thing, and the thin holes in the ground could be like manholes. More, different kinds of skyscrapers and less open space in the middle would do wonders.

A cityscape with skyscapers and you fall to your death could be the new Void.

The sewer would provide a really cool contrast between that and upper skyscraper themed section, which would look nice.

That sounds cool too. Maybe instead of multiple voids there can be multiple cities instead.

That seems possible, "City" can have a lot of interpretations. I think we should probably try to get at least 1 that's good before getting so ahead of ourselves though lol

Re: Suggest and/or Share-A-Map

Not bad but it looks like all the sharp slants would make it a bit difficult to hit grenades. Think about how pointyness was exploited in TWO, most notably the middle of castle, it makes it very hard to land grenades and can be very interesting, but I think in this level it's overdone, and I think that a lot of the homemade, map editor, levels will have the same problem. For this reason I strongly support Exe's partial triangle idea, so that some of the slopes up to points can be more gradual, and therefor more susceptible to nades which will make it more functional. Diggit?

What Rhine said.

I don't really see a ship though, to me it looks more like a mountain range with the rest of the mountains filling in as background art.
