Everything Pokémon

Many other forums have topics for Pokémon so I thought it might be a good idea for this community to have one.
Although it is a small community, a lot of people play Pokémon so it could be useful in some cases.

I'm Starting this topic for all Pokémon related questions
I have a lot of experience with every game (Excluding Black and White 2) and can help with simple story line questions to hard competitive questions.

I guess i'll start of with the Kanto Region. This is a team I used (Fire Red) to beat the Training Tower.

Starter (Speedy Poké) - Raichu - Brick Break, Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Thunder

Wall (Wall meaning very Defensive) - Blissey (pain in the ass to get) - Softboiled, Toxic, Seismic toss, Protect - Holding Leftovers

Sweeper (Physical) - Tyranitar - Earthquake, Stone Edge, Thunder Bolt, Crunch

Secondary Attacker - Dragonite - Outrage, Fire Blast, Surf, Fly

Actual In-Game Starter - Charizard - Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Slash, Wing Attack

Other Wall - Vaporeon - Ice Beam, Surf, Toxic, Shadow Ball

Here are some Pokémon that could provide useful.

-Fire Types-
- Growlithe (Exclusive to Fire Red)
- Ninetails (Exclusive to Leaf Green)

Harder to obtain
-Magmar

-Water Types-
- Dewgong
- Vaporeon
- Gyarados
- Lapras
- Cloyster
- Slowbro

Harder to obtain
- Kingdra
- Politoad
- Poliwrath
- Omastar

-Electric Types-
- Raichu
- Jolteon
- Electrode

Harder to obtain
-Zapdos

Other choices
- Alakazam
- Tyranitar (Can only get after Elite Four)
- Dragonite
- Articuno
- Moltres
- Mewtwo

Re: Everything Pokémon

2nd gen > 1st gen > 3rd gen > everything else

Competitive pokemon has never interested me; I've always just liked the casual adventure, build a team, and level up aspect of it. Unfortunately, now that I've grown older, I've realized that the games too easy to be much of a challenge, so I'm in the awkward position of liking certain pokemon games but knowing I wouldn't get a lot of enjoyment out of them.

Re: Everything Pokémon

Yeah the second generation is ridiculously easy. You can roll through the elite four without even one pokemon above level 45.

Re: Everything Pokémon

In most games once you do some series of events the Elite Four Pokémon change in level, and some evolutions to make it harder. The hardest thing you can do in-game is the Training Towers. In Platinum it was pretty challenging to beat the Tower Tycoon.

Re: Everything Pokémon

Where can you get Mewtwo, Magmar, and Slowbro in Fire Red?
EDIT: Do you have to trade to get a Slowpoke because in the Pokedex it says 'Area Unknown'?

Mewtwo is in Cerulean Cave and you must have beaten the Elite Four. Slowpoke evolves 37 and you can find one only in Leaf Green and the earliest one you find is by surfing in the little pond in Celadon. And Magmar is also Leaf Green exclusive and can be found at Mt. Ember in the grass.

Edit- This was made mainly for a discussion thread I guess if anyone was interested. Yea, you can get all the answers off Google but if anyone was interested they can post something significant like their teams or if they needed help with something further than the in game stuff. Also if questions do come up I can answer them in more detail I guess tongue.

Re: Everything Pokémon

I'll go with the game I know most (Pokemon Red). I never bothered with trades so I'll keep to the pokemon that you can catch purely off that game.

Charizard (I always liked the challenge of the first couple of gym leaders).

Gyrados (Water and Dragon...it'd be rude not to)

Dragonite (Sheer power)

Eggsecutor

Raichu

Kabutops

Although to be honest, there are another five I could add in there and I've never played competitively (my friends and I used to have the odd battle back in the day but I've always played Pokemon as a solo adventure).

Gyrados is a water/flying type, unless it was a dragon in the old games.

Re: Everything Pokémon

I never once used Pikachu/Raichu (I say this because of Viper's team), it always pissed me off. And I don't know about the later generations, but the first three are so water type-heavy it is beyond stupid to choose the water type as your starter. There are so many good water pokemon it isn't even funny. On the flip side, the fire pokemon may not be the strongest, but I've always had an affinity for them.

Re: Everything Pokémon

One thing I used to do to keep the old games fresh was to create a team reminiscent of a gym leader's, in the fact that it was all centered around one type. This made things a lot more interesting, because one of the things which makes the basic game so easy is that if you have a team with lots of variety, you'll have a trump card for every gym leader, a pokemon that can one shot pretty much every member of his team, and withstand all their attacks. The only exception is that you'll usually need an "HM slave", but 5 free slots is still a lot to work with, and you can put him in the PC before gym battles.

One of the teams I had the most fun with in Crystal was my bird/flying team. By the time I beat the elite four, the team was as follows:

Pidgeot
Dodrio
Murkrow
Crobat
Noctowl

Incidentally, my Magic The Gathering flying deck raped pretty hard back in the day as well

If I ever decide to play the game again, "bug" and "normal" seem like they'd make the best challenges.

And am I crazy, or would a 3D, non turn based pokemon game have the potential to be really fun? The idea is that you'd actually control the pokemon during battle, and be forced to evade/block/attack to win, instead of just choosing the right attacks. Competitive online is fine the way it is, but for offline, I've always found that it's a lot more rewarding to level up your character when you can actually feel the improvements instead of just inflicting more/less damage.

Re: Everything Pokémon

That idea sounds crazy Shrub, and yet, I like it. I'm trying to catch some more fire pokemon to go at the elite four in crystal (although I may roll through with my variety lineup first).

Loved that game

And sorry Misery I meant no offense in my earlier post, I was more insulting pickle.

What I'd absolutely love from the pokemon industry would be to have a Super smash bros style game but just pokemon. What's greater than having a 600+ character roster?

I caught three Dratinis and named them after Dany's dragons in Game of Thrones. How cool am I?

Re: Everything Pokémon

Well I mean the books, but Game of Thrones is much more identifiable than A Song of Ice & Fire.

I had a flying deck also, and it sucked cause I made it when I was 5. xD
