Replacements for the stick figures?

As you guys might have noticed I posted a topic a little while ago about taking the series in a new direction:
http://www.twboards.com/viewtopic.php?id=7782

along side of this choice comes another choice- should the main characters remain as stick figures, or should I change them to actual characters? I feel like stick figures are a bit outdated, they remind me too much of the early 2000s. I think I'd like to keep the somewhat apocalyptic theme that you see in the TW3 menu screen (also a bit overdone, I know), but I'm not sure about the characters. I don't really want to go an army/CoD route.

any ideas?

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

Try making it like an RPG kind of thing where each character has their own special perk or advantage. I agree, no one uses stick figures anymore.

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

Stick figures are outdated, and I think one of the reason why TW3 wasn't as successful was because the stick figure trend died.

What about just normal cartoony human avatars that you can customize using a similar system to the previous TWs? That would mean though if you're not using stick figures, you'd have to add shirts and pants to the mix.

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

I always knew there would be a TW4, Territory War is the game that helped start Afro-Ninja, so if he continues to make games, he will continue to make Territory War. But everyone else had their own opinions...

ISYuzzi wrote:

I dont think there is going to be another installment of our favorite stick figure, nade throwing franchise there buddy.

Afro Ninja (creator) talks about how he is moving onward away from this type of thing. You can read about it somewhere, maybe general discussion.

CDonut wrote:

It's kinda funny, I remember in one of the TW3 Vblogs on YouTube Afro said he was gonna add more medals and wanted to add a new weapon later. I guess that's not happening.
It's really disappointing that this game didn't get as popular TWO, and that 1.07 probably marks the end of the series.

CDonut wrote:

Go fucking kill yourself faggot. No one likes you, you make shit posts, and are like 2 years old. Your're a fuking orangatang that needs to get the shit beat out of him. I hate you so much get the hell off the boards you idiot. No one likes you so please just leave right now. There will be now Tw4 for a long time. Sequels only come out if the game is very successful, and or if the author of the game has a "LOT" of fun making the game. Maybe years from now, but not now. Stop posting shit topics that no one wants to read. Why not try making a normal topic about dinosaurs or something cool. You're not getting any better in my book, but hey, maybe when you mature and or get older, people will not be so pissed about your crappy worthless, dead weight posts.

CDonut wrote:

...Well that escalated quickly. But What green said is true. For the 500th time, Afro said he won't be spending anymore time on the franchise and he's making a bigger game that he said might go on Steam, and people are still suggesting things for the game, mostly posts that could have been avoided with a search. I'm getting sick of it, and I don't think I'm the only one tired of people making dumb topics like this. This forum basically turned into a friendlier /b/, with people only making off-topic threads, after Afro said he'd not be looking into the future of TW.
Another thing Green that's true is that you're a shitposter who's thinking way too much about a "New TW". If you want to be a Silas and make a TW4, go ahead (even though I doubt you even know what binary is). But we all know for sure Afro's not making it.

Getoutofmyyard wrote:

Swearing isn't a bannable offense, bro.

Afro will not make a TW4. He even confirmed this.

If he does make a TW4, which is incredibly unlikely, odds are it would be on Steam and not a flash game. He'd also have to make it drastically different with more content so it can pass off as a game that you want to pay for and have enough to keep a steady community.

It's not bullshit. It's not us trying to get your hopes down. It's the truth. There will not be a TW4.

Walrus King wrote:

Slick was lying to make fun of how stupid you are. The rules do not say that you are not allowed to use cus words. Kai is older than you are. Also, you said "damn" so if "fuck" is bannable I assume that is too.

Afro does not plan on releasing TW4 because TW3 doesn't have nearly the same amount of people playing as TWO did. We all know you aren't going to make TW4 because you're a stupid kid and it's extremely unlikely you have any programming knowledge. Other people before you have claimed they are going to do it and they never even started.

Lastly, will people stop acting like TWboards is some tight-knit group of buddies jerking each other off? Our hatred is not arbitrary. If you're an idiot you will not get along well here. It's really that simple. If you think you are not appreciated by the boards members take a good look at yourself, it's almost certainly your fault, not ours.

Back to the topic, yes do whatever you need to do, anything, just no more stick figures please.

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

Kernel you didn't know shit and you still don't. You got lucky in guessing that Afro would make a new installment in the TW series and besides it'll be different enough to where it's hardly Territory War 4.

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

Personally I think you should just add more to Territory War 3 e.g maps, weapons, customization of players. There are so many simple ideas that can be added which will make it interesting once again. The new direction for the game doesn't look that appealing to me. I've pretty much just repeated here what has been said a thousand times on boards. I think it is good that you have thought of a new design for the game Afro. smile

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

Making all that stuff would cost a lot of money and time though. Plus Afro has already added a lot (custom maps for example) to the game that should have attracted a lot of people but didn't.

I also agree with this post. More maps, or somehow bring all the old maps back. that would really make it fun again.

Something like this, but with 16 bit pixel art.

1) It's nostalgic, which makes everyone happy
2) It's popular right now, which is always a good selling point
3) Because of the two above, it's timeless, never truly going out of style.
4) Everyone likes it, it's truly a form all its own and can really be beautiful when done right.
5) It's simple enough to help on time.

Perhaps there could be different teams, like lizard people, humans, aliens, werewolves, etc. You could still have unlockable accessories or hats, but maybe certain hats for certain team. This would increase playability because collectibleholics will want to replay the game again and again with each team to unlock everything each team can get.

I guess another idea would be to make Territory War 4 the same style as before with some changes to angles in the game and the things I've mentioned but have it as a collection of everything we've had so far. This way popularity may be brought to the other games as the new game may include retro maps and weapons. In addition remastered maps or even promoting user content may do a lot. As far as user content goes, there is a member in my clan called HereCatch who makes some brilliant maps although the only way he gets recognition of his hard work is the few people who manage to know of the work and play it with him. The fact that its so difficult to see these maps and play them as the lobby is desolate shows they should be promoted in the same way, in the game as the game should be among the community of flash gamers.

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

Another advantage to having multiple races is the weapons could be different. Perhaps skeletons use the impact grenade while orcs or androids use the mortar? This gives freedom to try new weapons like lasers, shields, and other ideas that were tossed around. They might be similar in use but the way they look and sound could reflect the team using them, giving every race a more distinct personality.

Another idea is individual stats. Perhaps there are multiple stats like health, speed, and strength and there are three types of characters that each have an increased stat: A bigger brute with more health but is slower, a thinner speedster who can travel more spaces per turn but has decreased health, and an average character doesn't excel in anything but doesn't suffer from a lower stat either. You could create a team of just brutes, or a fast team, or mix and match them the way you like.

Would anyone please fill me in on who each character is suppose to be? I only know Mike's, Goomy's, Wally's, Mongoose's and a couple others.

Re: Replacements for the stick figures?

I made a CHEAT SHEET during Ninja's comic run, this might help with a few.

There's also the beautiful FINAL PICTURE with almost every character that appeared in the comics. There's a few who are missing from that pic but I would assume Ninja thought they weren't important enough to be in it. If you can acquire all the names you would be in good shape.

I believe, from left to right, it's Warbird, CViper, Sulliman, Shrub, Wally, Ninja Mongoose, Me, Upgrade, Twin, Afro Ninja, GOOMY, Taiwan Team? (I'm not sure, he never had goku hair but he did have the slant eyes), and Exe.Cute.

1) No Mikey, it's not, it's 2014, most gamers now are modern kids born in like 1998-2006, most haven't played these types of games.
2) No, certainly not, Flappy Bird is dead, got started by a PewDiePie video, betcha probs didn't know that.
3) Flappy Bird is dead.
4) No one plays that game anymore.
5) ?

That is all.

All the weapons should sprout from the robots back or chest, like R2-D2 or the robots from Mortal Kombat. Just an insane amount of junk inside them that defies physics.

It's a topic suggesting that stick figures should be replace. TW3 won't be mobile, I have no idea where you got that from.

Simplicity is best.
